In
1971, Dr.
Landmesser rescued four houses on the Spa Creek end of Shaw St. in
Murray Hill, ingeniously envisioning creating an intimate new community
near Truxtun Park.
The ingenuity came in when the houses
were moved by barge across Spa Creek to a lovely track of old
farm land that was home to a beautiful brick early 18th
c. manor, preserved and privately owned, with gardens and
orchard surround. The Shaw St. house that had been Judge
Michaelson’s family home never made it to the new site. It
slipped off the barge and fell in, making front page big news of the
day in The Evening Capitol.
The remaining houses made a new village
on Milkshake Lane, with the manor house centerpiece. Later, Dr.
Landmesser built a very interesting post and beam home for himself,
part of the new community. This property is close to all the amenities
of Truxtun Park, docks, playgrounds, running, walking and nature
trails. Tennis and swimming too! City bus service to downtown. Close to
Aris T Allen Blvd, connecting to Baltimore and Washington commutes.
Quite a nice little spot!
The house at 6 Milkshake Lane is
cottage perfect with old plaster walls, gleaming wood floors, oak on
the first level and pine on the second. The attractive new
kitchen has work island, wood cabinets and floor, nicely
appointed with recent stainless appliances, gas cooking. Adjoining is a
versatile room for family/dining- buyer choice.
There is a foyer entrance to a large
living room with wood burning fireplace. Off living room, a cheerful
den. Large powder room.
The second level has a wonderful master
bedroom, cedar lined closet, with new bath en suite. Two other bedrooms
and recent bath complete the picture.
The third level offers a large space for
home office, playroom, and exercise area.
The big surprise is the lower level
with a nice kitchen and two rooms and bath. Storage and utility areas
are separate.
New gas boiler, gas hot heater, all new
double pane windows, new gutters and downspouts, old slate roof, lots
of closet. All mechanicals updated. Original wood shingle exterior.
The garden has a shed, dollhouse, and
various fun things for kids that convey with purchase. Big shade
trees.
Milkshake Lane is a pleasant
allée of trees and flowering shrubbery, a place truly apart
in the downtown Annapolis scene.
